Let's imagine the States in 1969. Supreme Court decisions now permit nudity and penetration in erotic images. A once underground industry screens Deep Throat for limousine passengers. Magazines that once could only be sold under-the-counter in tobacco shops now appear in a secluded section of the store, sometimes behind a curtain.

Originating mostly in New York and California, a myriad of zine publishers burst into existence to fill pockets on wire racks. One of these enterprises, Mecca Magazines, produced Lusty, Eye Openers, Lights 'N Shadows, Taunt and gay Trigger in 1969.

Frillies came to life in this cultural environment, 64 glossy pages of cheerful cuties in bras, garter belts and stockings. So many of the models wear hosiery that the magazine could legitimately include the word nylon in its name, but the costumes of the curvaceous posers justify its suggestive title. Few pictures show these lovely lasses in panties. The two sweethearts who are seen in panties wear the same ones.

Professional photography relentlessly explores each models' pubic region, accomplishing explicit delineation of intimate female flesh and adjacent curls. The positioning of legs in unlikely geometry helps accomplish this carnal exposition. It might be a signature of the publisher or a celebration of editorial latitude, tolerated for the first time in those days.

In blurbs that accompany pictorials, text informs us of models' first and last names:

Agatha Wisty

Karen Smith

Joan Jordan

Nikki Neelson

Millicent Mart

Myra Mills

Kit Carlton

Lee Lory

Patti Bridger

They pose in living room and bedrooms and show off young curves that provoke fantasy. It's a nice assortment of pretty faces, well directed and lit by knowledgeable lensmen. Text adjacent to photographs rambles about models, their employment, attitudes about nudity and men.

The magazine contains no fiction, non-fiction, illustrations or comics. The digital replica presents all the content of the magazine, including ads, in the original sequence. Some page layouts have been revised. Brightness and contrast were adjusted and some specks retouched. Covers show some scratches.

The centerfold in the original requires the reader to rotate the magazine. Those pages have been joined and rotated 90° on ebook pages.

All new scans.

A basket of nostalgia for us now, Frillies gave its audience multiple views of precious female anatomy with clarity and poise. Simultaneously in and out of sexy undies, sprightly sexpots, dreamboats, fillies and cute kittens disclose the secrets of female physiology for the edification and delight of young men who paid $3.50 to flip pages.

NOTE: Although some parts of pictures are obscured on this page,
