The term latex is used to describe any type of rubber material. Pure gum rubber is an amber, semi-transparent material in its natural state without any fillers or color additives. Rubber can be synthetic too.
Most rubber sheet material, either natural or synthetic, will curl and wrinkle if baby oil, mineral oil or any petroleum oil product is put on them. Glycerine, on the other hand, is a water soluble lubricant that will not cause this problem. Any strong soaps will erode the rubber surface and cause it to become rough over a period of time. I usually wash my rubber pants and things in very mild soapy water, rinse thoroughly under cold water and hang to drip dry. Raw eggs, whipped cream, shaving cream have been used by some to lubricate their rubber pants while wearing them to increase the tactile sensation. I would think shaving cream too harsh and would favor the glycerine, eggs or whipped cream, but the lubricating effect of glycerine would be more lasting and much easier to wash out.
After the rubber is thoroughly dry, do dust it with baby powder to bring back the sheen and keep it from sticking together. It will also have a nice "baby smell". Don't use a powder with any oil in it. Just pure talc, and scented perhaps.
