A prolific purveyor of pinup and fetish photos, comics, movies, and, later, booklets, Irving Klaw had a successful mail-order business out of premises in Manhattan. He advertised his products in magazines of interest to men.

His customers received promotional fliers in envelopes that delivered purchases. The content of these printed sheets followed a broad assortment of fetish interests, including comic serials, popular actresses, professional wrestling, bondage, high heels, spanking, corsets, catfight, transvestites and cheesecake.

He collected the content of his collateral promotional materials in staple-bound, full-sized magazines titled Cartoon and Model Parade.

Bizarre Katalogs, Volume One, collects two of these 1950s fetish product catalogs, as originally published by Mr. Klaw. Most pages advertise three products, with brief descriptions and four to six preview pictures.

Movies and photo sets had titles like these:

• SILK STOCKING SIRENS IN HIGH HEELS

• SHOW GIRL CAT FIGHT!

• FEMALE BATTLE ROYAL

• HAIR PULLING SAVAGE BATTLE

• HIGH-HEELED CORSET CUTIES

• KNEE AND THIGH BOOT PHOTOS

• FEMALE IMPERSONATOR PHOTOS!

• SORORITY GIRL INITIATION

• LOIS TAMES THE SLAVE GIRLS

• INITIATED INTO BONDAGE

• SPANKING POSES FROM HOLLYWOOD MOVIE PRODUCTIONS!

• BLONDE BATTLING BEAUTIES

and well-known comic serial titles.

This is 1950s advertising for erotica without nudity or even implied sex. Some say Mr. Klaw had models pose wearing three pairs of panties to avoid post office conflicts. In the original volumes, photos and comic panels are small, intended only to promote interest in products. Images tell what products contain; they don't show splendors of touted pulchritude.

The ebook consists of two editions of Cartoon and Model Parade, the covers of Bizarre Katalogs, and an introduction with informed history written by its publisher, J. B. Rund.

Brightness and contrast were adjusted. Most page layouts appear exactly as found in the original. A few page layouts were revised for fit.

All new scans.

This unique publication winds a nostalgic tour of 1950s erotic merchandise, sold by one of the most enterprising producers of any period. Mr. Klaw designed his line to appeal to diverse fetish interests, and his language pursues brevity, accuracy and candor.

He understood what his clientele sought and profited from mining their niches. The ebook revisits those shadowy images of yesteryear and reminds us that today's popular fetish idiom descends from earnest ancestry in previous centuries.
