This magazine is a re-cover. In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, some adult magazine publishers would receive returns from distributors and retailers, remove the original covers and attach new covers, giving the interior pages a new name. Re-covers usually had no table of contents.

We know that Girls of the Orient is a recover because (1) it has no table of contents, (2) is slightly shorter than a typical full-size magazine, and (3) has four staples in the centerfold. Two staples were inserted when published the first time. After the original covers were removed, two additional staples were inserted to attach the new covers. And to make the new covers fit, the edges of the re-covered magazine were trimmed to make all pages the same size.

In addition, the publishers statement on page two has this unusual announcement:

"NOTE TO READERS CONTEMPLATING ANSWERING ADS IN THIS MAGAZINE: because of the time lapse between preparation of this magazine and its distribution and sale, it would be well to query an advertiser before sending money, to make certain the offer is still valid at the terms mentioned in the ad."

The time of the time lapse may have begun in 1984 or 1985, when the magazine was published with its original title. Then, after getting its second cover in 1988, it spent time on the shelf of an adult book store.

This information might be important for someone who bought the magazine with its first cover. We don't know the name of the first iteration.

Shocking Stockings was a recover. Queens of Cruelty was a re-cover.

Whatever the cover may say, we have a magazine with five pictorials of pretty models and a short story.
