As always, I am really impressed with
the presentation of the four stories
in the optimized ebook.
Having each panel on its own page
shows much more detail. I also feel
that it helps to concentrate on each
picture separately without the
urge to go through the story with too
much speed.

Another pleasant surprise is that
these four stories are not part of
the Hunter Rose collection. So we not
only get higher resolution images but
also new pictures.

Hopefully in the future you can publish
further Bishop stories or pictures.

Fanni Hall — episodes 9, 10 , 11, and 12

In 2016, we produced an optimized volume of Fanni Hall comics by the great Robert Bishop. That ebook contained episodes one through eight. The current offering presents the last four episodes in the unique series.

Episode eight ends with the word FINIS and a paragraph that sounds like a farewell. Episode 9 — The New Improved (maybe) Adventures of Fanni Hall — begins with these words, suggesting the beginning of a new odyssey:

Hi there, sports fans! Its time for ano(ther) scintillating adventure with Miss La Bunza herself, your fanny and mine, Fanni Hall!

At any rate, as this tale of restrained romance opens, we find this luscious wee wenchlet wandering through the environs of The Park. Spring has sprung and the tiny forest vermin are vermining, the tweety-birds are tweeting, and the buds on the trees are sprouting like corks from champagne bottles. It is, in short, spring-time. What better time for long casual walks in the recently turned mild weather!

While strolling about The Park, Jani is kidnapped by employees of Submissa, where she's bound and gagged. Fanni appears there to apply for work. The manager, Miss Carstairs, commands Fanni to strip and don brief panties “ . . . to see what you look like as a slave.” Jani get taken to a warehouse where she's gagged, taped, blindfolded and roped. After she's paddled, Fanni also gets gagged and roped down to her toes.

When she attempts to rescue Jani, Fanni finds the blond in a kind of straight jacket, locked in a cell. Miss Carstairs interrupts Fanni's progress and forces her into more stringent bondage. She's fitted with a nose ring, to which a chain is attached. With cuffed ankles and arms, Fanni must stand on tiptoe to relieve the pull of the chain attached to her nose ring and the ceiling.

A van moves Jani to a cabin in the woods, but the sweet captive opens the back door and runs into the wilderness. Goons pursue and eventually lasso her back to their supervision.

Throughout the narrative, Submissa personnel control our fettered damsels. At the end of the fourth episode, Fanni has been enslaved and Jani finds herself imprisoned in the middle of nowhere by mauling thugs. We can only speculate about the conclusion of the story.

Mr. Bishop's superb draftsmanship renders compact beauties with youthful curves. Their flesh resists narrow restraints and bulges against tightened ropes.

As in his other works, he uses printed textures to show gradients, bricks, cement, wood grain, fabric, metal sheen and dot patterns. The second episode of the four (10th in the volume) shows the most airbrush contour on Fanni's fine figure. His skill and earnestness are so refined that the gleam of a polished ball gag reflects the image of a paddle and its menacing wielder.

The artist also serves as witty narrator of his tale. Often self-deprecating, he teases the reader as he sets scenes. He's confident about his dialog and his drawings.

With a few exceptions, the optimized ebook presents each panel on a separate page. This presentation technique is intended to reduce the need for zooming and scrolling. A few figure features are repeated, as virtual enlargements. For some panels, narrative blocks or dialog balloons were re-positioned to allow display of characters at maximum height.

Brightness, contrast and levels were adjusted and shadows reduced. Although some of his lettering is light, Mr. Bishop's world-famous ink appears with smooth edges.

The ebook presents the complete content of the last four chapters on more than 100 pages. In this digital iteration, this master's art is shown the respect and appreciation it deserves.

The Complete Fanni Hall — 1971 – 1976

Published by House of Milan in 1978, The Complete Fanni Hall collects the 50 pages of comics that appeared in Knotty magazines. The first page of each episode shows the Knotty issue in which it was first published. Pages of the 12 episodes contain between three and nine panels.

Except for advertising, the ebook contains all content of the 1978 publication, including front and back covers, color centerfold, inside front cover and Mr. Bishop's preface on page three and the inside back cover. Original page layouts were retained.

Brightness, contrast and levels were adjusted and shadows reduced. Mr. Bishop's deft lines and subtle contours appear with clarity.
