Hollywood
Like Gent, Knave, Fling, and Bachelor, Topper took lessons in men's magazine construction from Playboy. Playboy had three or four pieces that consisted of photos of women plus cartoons, fiction and articles. The May 1965 issue of Topper has three model pictorials, one subject (legs) pictorial, three short stories, articles about Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, lightweight Japanese motorcycles, cooking and a woman's first person advice on dating.
Letters and some humor pieces also fill these pages, with a wry, self-deprecating satire called “What Kind of Man Reads Topper?”. A column from Dr. Jazz and a few selections from Perfumed Garden, the 16th century classic Arab manual for making the most of bed time. The ebook includes the cartoons plus ads for all types of erotic books, pictures and 8mm movies.
It's odd how some things that were carefully avoided in 1965 draw little attention today and vice versa.
